Demonstration of video-as-a-service solution gives viewers a first-person experience of matches via their mobile device

Unified Video Technologies (UNIV), a provider of complete media ecosystems and software services for broadcasters, enterprises and the entertainment industry, will live-stream boxing matches via iVE, UNIV’s 360˚ interactive video solution, from the 2014 NAB Show. The matches will be held throughout the show at a specially constructed scaled-down ring located at the UNIV booth (N8023).  Visitors to the booth will be able to compare the experience of watching the match in person with experiencing it through the iVE second screen app on Android and iOS mobile devices.

By simply moving their devices through space using iVE, visitors can navigate about the ring for a truly immersive and engrossing physical experience of being onsite at the match.  A similar up-close-and-personal experience can be accessed at the UNIV website (www.univtec.com/ive) using any desktop and laptop browser by clicking and dragging a mouse to interact with the event.  Both experiences will demonstrate how the iVE experience can be used to complement live TV broadcasts.

iVE uses unique multi-lens cameras to capture live events, including sports and entertainment, from a variety of viewpoints.  The service then stitches the video and renders it to create a fully interactive, up-close and personal 360˚ first-person experience. The innovative iVE app enables viewers to create a completely personalized experience in real-time by simply moving their mobile device. A similar experience can be achieved in desktop or laptop computer browser window by moving a mouse. Viewers may participate in the event as it happens or on demand.

For advertisers, event producers and sports teams, iVE provides an OPEX model that does not require investment in costly capital equipment. The iVE app and browser may be customized for a fully branded experience. RSS feeds, polling, graphics and ad insertion, and social media integration provide increased viewer involvement, reach and messaging capabilities. The application allows the broadcasters to add another screen to monetize their content by selling sponsorship, hotspots and banners with advertisement during the event and on demand.

“We eagerly anticipate the very unique demonstration that we will be hosting at the 2014 NAB Show. In addition to providing great entertainment at our booth, it will illustrate just how effectively iVE brings the being-there excitement of live events to people throughout the world, anytime, and on any device,” said Pablo Goldstein, CEO of UNIV. “By providing iVE on a video-as-a-service basis, we make it accessible to businesses, producers and event organizers without requiring them to invest in event streaming capital equipment. iVE provides them with an ideal solution for delivering high-involvement, attractive experiences to consumers worldwide.”

During the NAB Show, the live boxing matches can be accessed from anywhere worldwide on mobile devices by downloading the Surround Video Application directly from the iTunes Store and going to http://www.univtec.com/nablive2014, or with any web browser.

White-label uVOD solution improves on leading video-on-demand streaming services with support for live TV channel delivery

Unified Video Technologies (UNIV), a provider of complete media ecosystems and software services for broadcasters, enterprises and the entertainment industry, will debut a new front-end interface for its white-label uVOD video-on-demand (VOD) solution at the 2014 NAB Show. In an innovative, value-added twist on the Netflix-like user experience it offers, the portal enables subscribers to view real-time linear TV as well as on-demand programming.

The uVOD Web Portal combines intuitive user navigation and account management with well-organized content libraries for live and on-demand streaming of over-the-top (OTT) content.   Unlike competing services, the uVOD Web Portal also enables consumers to search and stream linear TV programming.  Easy-to-use navigation tools allow consumers to smoothly browse through selections, clicking or highlighting dynamic thumbnails to retrieve trailers, program description and other information.  Easy-to-understand account management steps also allow consumers to choose subscription or transactional models from the service provider for both linear and on-demand programming – an industry first.

UNIV has integrated adaptive bit streaming into the uVOD platform, with automatic recognition of bandwidth conditions to deliver streams at the most appropriate speed.  This ensures the best possible consumer experience on any user device, including smartphones, tablets and OTT media players.

“We’re convinced that no other vendor offers a similar service of uVOD’s depth,” said Pablo Goldstein, CEO, UNIV.  “Only a few companies offer OTT models in software-as-a-service structures at an operator grade to give both the consumer and the service provider a unique experience.  We are advancing it several steps further through the uVOD portal.”

The service provider benefits beyond being able to offer a dynamic and user-friendly VOD service to its customers.  Everything about uVOD ties to the CMS (content management system), which is essential to uVOD’s design as a white-label service.  uVOD automatically loads the look and feel of the operator, from logos to color schemes, along with the programs and movies that the operator has the rights to deliver.  This is essential as it accelerates time to market while increasing profitability.

Additionally, a flexible back office structure integrates the service provider’s billing systems with uVOD’s managed services platform to automate billing and subscriptions.  That integration can be easily disabled if the service provider wishes to handle these business processes in house.

At its NAB booth (N8023), UNIV will demonstrate the multiplatform capability of its white-label uVOD video-on-demand (VOD) solution, playing out content to iOS and Android tablets.  The demonstration will explore the new uVOD Web Portal, including its personalized front-end interface and navigation of content libraries.  The demonstration will also show the back-office capabilities that automate billing, subscriptions and other transactions.

Interested parties can contact sales@univtec.com to schedule in advance of the show, which takes place April 7-10 at the Las Vegas Convention Center, to schedule an appointment.

Interactive demos and live speaking engagements emphasize cost-efficient operation in an evolving broadcast and media universe

Miami, Florida – March 13, 2014 — Unified Video Technologies (UNIV), a provider of complete media ecosystems and software services for broadcasters, enterprises and the entertainment industry, is preparing for an active 2014 NAB Show that will include two speaking engagements and a series of interactive TV demonstrations.  The company’s overall focus will center on new technologies and managed services that help broadcasters and service providers efficiently address the changing viewing habits of consumers in a TV Everywhere world.

UNIV will demonstrate the multiplatform capability of its white-label uVOD video-on-demand (VOD) solution, playing out content to iOS and Android tablets.  The demonstration will explore the new uVOD Web Portal, the personalized front-end interface that combines uVOD’s unique, OTT-based user experience with its white-label operator benefits.  The NAB demo will showcase how consumers can access and browse a library of linear TV and on-demand content on an operator-branded portal; as well back-office capabilities that automate billing, subscriptions and other transactions for the service provider.

uVOD provides a quick-launch, subscription-based VOD platform that operates as an OPEX solution with a managed service component, eliminating traditional capital expense requirements.  The latest version, Release 1.5, also enables a choice of transactional and subscription business models for both linear and on-demand programming – a differentiator from competing services.

UNIV will also show its iVE interactive service for fully managed, 360˚ surround broadcast experiences on the second screen, capturing live streams of special events scheduled at the UNIV booth for viewing on tablets and smartphones.  At NAB, visitors will be able to navigate through televised events in real time or on-demand via IVE’s user-controlled second-screen applications on a tablet.   As with uVOD, IVE is an OPEX-based solution for creating revenue-generating content, and requires no capital investment by content producers.

UNIV CEO Pablo Goldstein will also contribute to the 2014 NAB Show’s conference sessions, giving a presentation and participating on a panel as part of the Connected Media World series.  Both engagements take place at the CMW Theatre located in the North Hall.

  • Monday, April 7 at 2:30pm:  Pablo will present “Industry Trends for Operators That Want to Deliver OTT Services” offering solutions to help broadcasters and service providers cost-efficiently manage emerging video delivery opportunities, and maximize the value of those prospects.

Back at its location in the North Hall (Booth #N8023), UNIV will also play video examples of its systems design, integration and consulting work, examining the company’s specialty in designing software-centric workflow solutions.  In alignment with UNIV’s commitment to client success, the company will discuss custom system integration requirements that range from building workflow solutions (content management systems, traffic and billing, SMS) to producing original content across studios, control rooms and outside production vehicles.

Located in the heart of Israel’s Silicon Wadi, the R&D Center is headed by Ariel Matzkin, UNIV’s CTO. The center, which opened on February 1, is fully staffed with senior system architects, video workflow architects and engineers, mobile app developers, web developers, back office developers, CMS integrators and other professionals experienced in developing software solutions for managing and delivering video.

UNIV chose to locate its R&D facility in Israel because of its rare concentration of broadcast technology specialists who are creative, innovative and have an exceptionally high level of expertise.

At its R&D facility, UNIV is developing a line of advanced managed services that will enable clients to enjoy cutting edge capabilities without all the hassle of deploying new devices and systems on their premises. UNIV adds a layer of control and administration to innovative technologies that are on the market, making them compatible with existing workflows and easy to integrate. Matzkin adds that the pipeline is already filling up with solutions that exploit the expanding universe of delivery platforms, file-based video and anywhere, anytime viewing.

Company to Introduce New uVOD Features at NATPE, Aligning with Organization’s Commitment to Bridging Traditional and Digital Media

Unified Video Technologies (UNIV), a provider of complete media ecosystems and software services for broadcasters, enterprises and the entertainment industry, will introduce Release 1.5 of its white-label uVOD video-on-demand (VOD) solution at NATPE Miami 2014, a leading international exhibition for the digital and linear communities (January 27-29, the Fontainebleau, Miami, Booth 602).

The unique uVOD solution offers customers a quick-launch, subscription-based video-on-demand platform that operates as an OPEX-expensed managed service.  This eliminates capital expense requirements including system operation and management, making uVOD the only OTT system that exists solely as a revenue generator.

The new uVOD release adds linear and on-demand programming delivery using a choice of transactional and subscription business models.  Multiplatform capability supports streaming across Android and iOS mobile devices as well as computers and Smart TVs, ensuring customers can reach the widest possible audiences.

An attractive new portal is easily operated via an intuitive Graphic User Interface (GUI) that is compatible with all devices. The portal offers rich functionality including zapping between linear channels, full integration with Microsoft PlayReady DRM, and customized back office subscriber management. Mobile applications are approved for download from the Apple iTunes and Android Play Stores. Broad arrays of analytics are provided for all management tools such as Traffic Sources, Event Tracking, Audience Data, and E-Commerce.

uVOD was introduced in 2013 to help broadcasters, cable system operators (MSOs), internet service providers (ISPs) and Telcos quickly and easily launch state-of-the-art branded OTT services without investing in costly in-house OTT technology.  It is available worldwide as a technology-only service and in specific regions as a technology plus content service that includes a library of major Hollywood classic and new release titles. As a managed service, back office business needs such as provisioning, fulfillment and billing are built into the system.

“We are thrilled to present Release 1.5 of our UVOD solution and to add exciting new capabilities so soon after the initial release of our revolutionary white-label, managed OTT service,” remarked Ariel Matzkin, CTO of UNIV. “uVOD, the only OTT system in the world that can be deployed alongside a web portal with complete customer branding within a matter of days, is just one of the exciting and innovative UNIV technologies.  We look forward to demonstrating for new and established customers alike at NATPE this year.”

UNIV will hold meetings with local television stations and broadcast, cable and satellite networks at NATPE.  Please contact sales@univtec.com to schedule an appointment.

Fueled by the analog shutdown, the Latin American region was most responsive to UNIV offerings. The region’s broadcasters recognized OTT services as a means to satisfy viewer appetites for local as well as Hollywood content, and showed strong interest in UNIV’s proprietary uVOD solution as they prepare for OTT services in 2014. uVOD is UNIV’s hosted and managed on-demand video solution for original content production and delivery anywhere, on any device at any time. Like UNIV’s current management and employees, new hires will bring experience with diverse types of deployments including HD upgrades for traditional broadcasters, studios and outside production, and IPTV, DTH and OTT services. UNIV consistently seeks industry professionals with a passion for media and entertainment technologies and deep understand of high performance workflows, as well as experience with baseband video, RF, satellite, and IT technologies.
